I am not exactly sure with what these cards are associated but I suspect they were book inserts and/or tie-ins.  The fronts of the cards are photographs taken by Jane Burton of prehistoric life scenes created by Steve Kirk.  The reverse of the cards have information about the animals.  What is interesting (to me at least) is that there is an ISBN number on the backs of the cards (0-89954-998-5) which none of the ISBN search engines are able to identify.  The card images come from the books, 'Time Exposure' and 'The Age of Dinosaurus' by Jane Burton with text by Dougal Dixon shown below.
