These cards were issued as a promotional item at local K-Mart stores and were also distributed as "preview" cards before the regular set went into production.  These cards can be differentiated from the "production" cards as these cards are numbered whereas the production cards are not.  
 
These cards (and the production cards) were produced by The Source Group through an exclusive licensing agreement with the Morrison Entertainment Group and are based on Matchbook Toys "Monster In My Pocket" (MIMP) miniature "Limited Edition" collectible toys which were released in February 1991.  Each toy was assigned a point value based on their respective strengths and weaknesses.  The more powerful the creature, the harder it was to obtain (e.g., production varied based on the point values, lower point toys were produced in greater quantities than high point toys).  
 
The fronts of these cards feature drawings of the 48 Matchbook Toys MIMP miniatures and the backs feature  write-ups, card numbers,  and the same strengths and weaknesses point ratings however, unlike the toys, all of the cards, no matter what point rating, seems to have been printed in the same quantities thus there are no known "scarce" cards.
