Robert Telleria

Published by J & J Colman Mustard Ltd., these could be the second ever educational charts depicting prehistoric animals behind the 1857 Chapman & Hall Ltd. Waterhouse Hawkins's Diagrams of the Extinct Animals posters.

Color images of prehistorics were rarely printed even in books during the 1900s-1910s, typically limited to trade cards. The undated charts are most likely early from 1911-14 - certainly just before World War I.  Inostrancevia, one of the newest discoveries on the chart, depicted as water-going, indicates the chart is at least post-1910.  Naosaurus is included, a name that dropped in favor of Edaphosaurus by 1912.  The only theropod shown is Megalosaurus, depicted as Ceratosaurus.  Tyrannosaurus is absent, having been described in 1905 but not widely depicted until 1910s.  Iguanodon is not included but Hadrosaurus is. Pteranodon is shown without a crest.

The Cenozoic Era is referred to as the archaic British term 'Cainozoic' Era. Removing one of the images of very similar sauropods would have allowed room for Archaeopteryx (although one looks like it is being consumed by the megalosaur), Ichythosaurus, Mosasaurus or Plesiosaurus.

The artist is unknown. The Hadrosaurus image contained in on the lower right of the inset vignette on Chart B: The Mesozoic Age does however reflect the style of Alice Woodwardian.  These rare charts, if and when found today, tend to be water damaged and/or soiled, some so badly they are likely never brought to sale.
